COC Congratulates 4 Junior National Program Members

On Jan 6th, the Junior Team Executive Steering Committee (JTESC) at Orienteering USA announced the USA Junior National Team and the Junior Development Team athletes for 2020.  Congratulations to COC members Jessica Colleran and Kai Mihata for being named to the Junior National Team and to Benjamin Brady and Annika Mihata for being placed on the Junior Development Team.  You can read about all members here.

OUSA is still accepting applications for the  Junior Development Team (JDT), and will be doing so throughout the year.  They encourage all juniors, ages 13-20, who run confidently at the Orange level (or above), and want to connect with other young people who love orienteering and take their orienteering to the next level, to join the 2020 JDT.  Learn more about the Junior Program here.

Winter League Resumes

Join us at Green River College this Saturday, January 11th for another great event.  Green River College is essentially two venues–a dense college campus surrounded by thick forest and undergrowth. This meet marks our first time off trail. Enjoy another refreshed map with a 1:5000 scale.  Register Now!

Volunteers! We Love Them and We Need Them!

Did you know Cascade Orienteering Club is almost 100% volunteer run? Did you know it takes 85-100 volunteer hours to put on just one Winter League meet? COC couldn’t produce the volume or professional quality of meets we offer year round without volunteers. If you or your children are enjoying orienteering in the Puget Sound area please consider giving 90 minutes of your time at an upcoming meet. To those of you seen in this WordCloud, THANK YOU for your time and talents!

Too many holiday cookies? Too much indoor shopping?

We have the perfect way to get yourself outdoors and run off some of the holiday excess. Join us on Saturday, December 21 for more Winter League fun! This time at Bridle Trails State Park, where an intricate network of trails make it a perfect place to practice feature recognition, compass use, pace counting and contours. Sign up now, you won’t regret it!

Another Refreshed Map for Winter League #3

Join the fun on Saturday, December 7th at St Edward State Park! Winter League has been very fortunate to be able to debut refreshed maps at each venue this year. Thanks to Dave Tallent, the St Edward’s map continues this with over 100 hours of map updates to show off.  St Edward is an on trail only venue, making it an ideal place to practice your route choice skills.  Some important notes to be aware of:

  • St Edward has some construction going on so nothing this year is “where it’s always been”.
  • A Discover Pass is required to park in this state park.

The 2020 US National Junior Program is now accepting applications!

Are you a Junior that loves Orienteering? Are you dedicated to improving your skills?  Do you want to experience the sport at the next level? Then think about applying for the US Junior Development or Junior National Teams! Information about and applications for applying to the National Junior Program are now posted on the Orienteering USA Junior Team page here. Note that applications for the Junior National Team are due December 15, 2019. Development Team applications are accepted throughout the year.
