Cascade juniors to represent U.S. in Hungary

At least three COC juniors will represent the United States this summer at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Hungary. The selection races were held March 23–25 in conjunction with California Orienteering Week. Fully half of the six-person women’s team will be comprised of COC members: Tyra Christopherson, Siri Christopherson, and Caroline Sandbo. Both Siri and Caroline are high school students who competed in WIOL this year; Tyra is a WIOL alumna who is now in college. On the men’s side, COC member Kai Mihata was named the third alternate. Good luck to our juniors in Hungary this summer!

Congratulations to the WIOL champions

We wrapped up the 2017–2018 WIOL season with a great championship meet at Fire Mountain Scout Reservation. As always, we crowned champions in many different age categories for both the overall season (best four out of seven results) and for the single-race championship event. Season standings are available here.

Congratulations to all the season winners: Cora Buchholz, Ermolay Beketov, Catherine Lirtsman, Connor Timney, Grace Zoppi, Minhyok Kim, Benjamin Brady, Siri Christopherson, and Scott Funston. Cora, Benjamin, and Siri earned the highest possible score of 400 points.

At the championships, the winners were Cora Buchholz, Ermolay Beketov, Zariah Zosel, Connor Timney, Heidi Blair, Joshua Colleran, Ellen Heinaro, and Scott Funston.

The season awards for the public Winter Series went to Will Enger and Nina Potrebich. Nina also captured the women’s title at the championships, but Eric Bone earned top honors in the men’s race.

Ready for vampire orienteering?

One of our most popular, family-friendly events, this is making its first appearance at Robinswood Park in Bellevue, Saturday, October 28. For timing and other info, see the event page.

You have 24 checkpoints to find, at dusk and beyond. You have a map, a flashlight…and “vampires” in the park! An orienteering vampire is someone with an official red flashlight who can swap your progress card for that flashlight—and you become the vampire, looking for someone fast!

COC annual meeting: September 30 at 1:15pm

,

Join us on Saturday, September 30 at 1:15pm, at the Phinney Community Center, for our annual club meeting!

It’s time to review our past year, celebrate some successes, discuss what would make the next year a blast, and then organize to make it happen. As a Cascade Orienteering Club member, you get a say in what we’re going to do.

If you have not attended the annual meeting before, consider it the annual club celebration. As in other years, it’s a good time to connect with others over free food, learn what’s going on in the club, and find a meaningful part in it moving forward.

VOTING
All members will receive a survey from surveymonkey.com, to vote for COC Elected Representatives. The e-mail survey saves money on postcard mailing and allows us to splurge on pizza and salad for you instead!
