2024 Pacific Northwest Orienteering Festival
June 21-30, 2024
Enjoy nine orienteering days in Eastern Washington and Montana, including six NREs! Sign up for the whole festival or take your pick.
NEW: Knockout Sprint added!
In addition to the regularly scheduled Sprint NRE on Sunday, June 30, we will also offer a knock-out sprint tournament the same day on the U of M campus, *free of charge* to anyone entered for the sprint. Siri Christopherson is the course setter for the knock-out sprint, as well as the NRE. When you register, you will have the opportunity to opt in or out of the knockout sprint.
The sprint NRE will be used to seed the heats for the knockout tournament. Top 36 men and top 36 women will advance to the heats. Anyone who doesn’t advance can run in a consolation heat.
For each of the two brackets (men’s and women’s), there will be six quarterfinal heats, with the top 3 in each heat advancing to the semifinals.
The 18 semifinalists in each bracket will be placed into 3 heats each, with the top 2 from each heat advancing to the final.
Approximate timeline:
- 9am-11am: NRE starts
- 12pm: Quarterfinals
- 1pm: Consolation
- 1:45pm: Semifinals
- 2:30pm: Finals
- 3pm: Awards
We think this will be a fun, spectator friendly event to finish off the Festival and prepare folks for the first-ever knock-out sprint at the North American Championships later this summer.
We apologize for the late notice and any already-made travel plans that may be affected, as this has only materialized over the last several days. I will note that our contract with Lubrecht runs through Monday morning, July 1, so if folks choose to fly out Monday, they can keep staying at Lubrecht.

Timing system
We will use the SPORTident electronic timing and punching system for all events. All competitors are required to use an SI-Card to participate. If you don’t own your own, sign up to rent one when you register ($3/event or $15 for the entire festival). Contactless (Air+) punching may be used for some events: check event pages.
Malfunction
If the SI unit fails (you don’t hear a beep or see a flash), use the manual pin punch to punch your map.
